Background
The Consortium of Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations for Elections (CECOE) is a non-profit, non-governmental civil society organization with over 175 member organizations. CECOE was licensed by the F.D.R.E. Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) in 2019 under registration number 4748, in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation 1113/2019. Its mission is to enhance and coordinate the role of Ethiopian CSOs in election observation, voter education, preventing electoral conflicts, and building the capacity of member organizations.
CECOE is also an active member of the East and Horn of Africa Election Observers Network (E-HORN), the African Election Observers Network (AfEONet), and the Global Network of Domestic Election Monitors (GNDEM), which connects monitoring organizations across more than 88 countries. Since 2019, CECOE has observed seven electoral events by deploying Long-Term Observers (LTOs) and Short-Term Observers (STOs) for both referendums and general elections.
Currently, CECOE is implementing the project: “Enhancing the Credibility, Transparency, and Inclusiveness of the Seventh General Elections of Ethiopia through systematic citizens’ election observation.” Supported by the Embassy of Ireland in Ethiopia, this project focuses on planning and preparing for the upcoming 7th General Election.
The Position
CECOE seeks to hire interns to support its election observation activities for the upcoming 7th General Election. The interns will work under the CECOE Secretariat in close collaboration with CECOE staff, member organizations, Regional Focal Persons, Zonal Coordinators, and observers. Their main responsibility will be assisting in data processing from observers to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Interns will be expected to:

Assist in recruiting observers in coordination with Regional Focal Persons and Zonal Coordinators.

Verify accuracy of data from observer reports, checklists, and forms.

Perform basic data cleaning to identify and correct errors, duplicates, or inconsistencies.

Support report generation by organizing cleaned data, assisting with analysis, and preparing summaries.

Contribute to timely processing of observer reports to facilitate quick dissemination of findings.

Assist with data entry, digitization, and archiving.

Provide administrative support for data-related activities, including maintaining contact forms and tracking resources.

Participate in quality control checks for training materials and simulation exercises.

Report critical data discrepancies or issues to the Management Team.

Carry out additional tasks assigned by the supervisor.
Duration
The internship is short-term for 6 months, with possible extension depending on performance and project requirements.

About You
Required Qualifications and Experiences

Minimum of a diploma or bachelor’s degree in law, political science, IT, statistics, social sciences, or related fields.

Basic skills in data tools such as Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, or similar software; knowledge of data cleaning techniques is an added advantage.

Fluency in Amharic and English (spoken and written); knowledge of local languages relevant to assigned regions is preferred.

At least 3 months of experience or internships in data entry, administrative support, or CSO-related activities; experience in election or rights-related work is a plus.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under supervision within a team.

Good oral and written communication skills in English.
