Established in 2019, Deborah Foundation is a registered non-profit organization with a mission to improve the lives of children with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities through support in Health, Education, and Policy Advocacy. Under Deborah Foundation, Deborah Academy is one of the few schools in Ethiopia offering inclusive education. The academy provides a safe learning environment that promotes diversity and tolerance for students with Down Syndrome and other intellectual disabilities. Deborah Academy aims to be a hub for fostering the growth of successful, creative, and tolerant individuals.

Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject area or a related field.

Strong content knowledge and pedagogical skills in the subject area.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
-
Previous experience working with students with support needs or disabilities.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-
Knowledge of teaching practices for students with support needs.
-
Knowledge of current educational and instructional methodologies and techniques.
-
Ability to work effectively with diverse students, families, and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
-
Develop comprehensive, standards-based lesson and unit plans aligned with the school’s curriculum and learning objectives.
-
Implement effective classroom management strategies to foster a productive and nurturing classroom culture.
-
Provide individualized support, accommodations, and interventions to meet the unique needs of each student.
-
Monitor student progress and communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding performance and behavior.
-
Choose and apply instructional methods and materials appropriate for the teaching and learning activities.
-
Facilitate lessons effectively for students with disabilities or support needs.
-
Utilize games, music, books, art, technology, and other resources to teach skills and foster development.
-
Adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse student requirements and interests.
-
Create a positive and appropriate classroom environment conducive to learning.
-
Develop and implement a suitable classroom management system.
-
Establish and enforce rules for acceptable behavior and follow approved disciplinary interventions.
-
Encourage cooperative social behavior through games and activities.
-
Observe, evaluate, and record students’ social and academic progress.
-
Provide constructive feedback to parents, guardians, and administration.
-
Plan and order classroom equipment and supplies, ensuring that equipment and facilities are clean and safe.

Collaborate with other staff members to promote overall school health.

Perform required administrative duties, including attending staff meetings.

Uphold the school code of conduct and all school policies, rules, and procedures in a supportive and positive manner.

Perform other duties as assigned by the School and Head of Support Needs.
