Background
Population Council Ethiopia is carrying out a mixed-methods research project to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, safety, continuation, and user experience of the Hormonal IUD (HIUD) across public health facilities in Ethiopia.
The project involves multiple data collection stages, including baseline enrollment, follow-ups at 1, 6, and 12 months, qualitative interviews, and limited observational work. To support this study, 15 skilled Data Collectors will be hired to conduct accurate and ethical interviews with clients, healthcare providers, and key informants in selected health facilities within the target regions.

Duration of Assignment
The assignment will run for approximately 12–14 months, covering:

Data collectors may be recruited on a part-time basis or through a round-based consultancy agreement.
Position Summary
The Data Collector will conduct structured and follow-up interviews, ensure high-quality and ethical data collection, maintain participant confidentiality, and collaborate closely with health facility teams and supervisors. The position requires excellent communication skills, understanding of ethical research practices, ability to travel, and strong self-management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. Data Collection Activities

Carry out baseline interviews with eligible HIUD users using digital devices (MQUAD).

Conduct follow-up interviews at 1, 6, and 12 months, either by phone or in person, focusing on:

Continuation status

Side effects or complications
-
Overall satisfaction and acceptability

Method switching
-

Administer provider and facility questionnaires as assigned.

Conduct in-depth interviews (IDIs) with selected participants when required.

Record all responses accurately using MQUAD and verify completeness.
B. Participant Management & Recruitment
-
Confirm eligibility and ensure informed consent is properly obtained.

Interact respectfully and professionally with all participants.
-
Safeguard privacy during facility-based or home interviews.
-
Track follow-up schedules and manage participant appointments.
C. Ethical Conduct & Confidentiality
-
Protect all personal and study information at all times.
-
Securely manage documents and digital tools containing identifiable data.
-
Report adverse events, distress, or sensitive disclosures immediately.
-
Follow established Do-No-Harm guidelines during sensitive conversations.
D. Coordination & Reporting

Maintain active communication with facility staff and supervisors.
-
Submit completed forms daily and resolve any inconsistencies.

Participate in routine debriefings, training refreshers, and feedback sessions.

Provide updates on challenges related to recruitment, consent, or tool usage.
About You
Education
A minimum of a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in:

Nursing

Midwifery
-
Public Health
-
Social Sciences
Applicants with a Health Extension (Level IV+) background may be considered with strong experience.
Experience
-
1–2 years of experience in research, surveys, or evaluation-based data collection.

Experience in sexual and reproductive health (SRH) or family planning studies is an advantage.

Experience with telephone-based data collection is preferred.
Skills and Competencies

Fluency in Amharic; knowledge of local languages is an added benefit.

Applicants for Oromia must be fluent in Afan Oromo.

Familiarity with tablet-based tools, especially MQUAD.
